Wondering Why the Name Popple?

The most common definition of popple is “choppy seas” which, metaphorically, is often used to describe the difficult, troublesome, or uncertain times in life. Make no mistake – we  all experience choppy seas, or popple, from time to time. Such tumultuous times are an inherent part of being human.  And it is typically in these times that psychologists are sought to help individuals and families navigate to calmer waters or a safe harbour. Therefore, Popple Psychology Services was named to highlight that psychologists are available to help your family navigate the inevitable stormy seasons of life.

At the same time, popple is a silly, fun-to-say word. Not convinced? Go ahead and say ‘popple’ out loud ten times fast to see why it made multiple online lists (such as this one) of the Top 100 funny words to say! Having worked with hundreds of youth and their caregivers, Dr. Fletcher believes that difficult and heavy problems can often be approached in a playful and imaginative manner – especially when engaging the brilliant minds of children. Thus, the name Popple was also chosen to reflect the playfulness and creativity that can be effectively infused into therapeutic work with youth – even when the seas are choppy!
